In Memory of Thomas Hehir (1950-2022)

Dr. Thomas Francis Hehir, former director of the Office of Special Education Programs under President Clinton, passed away at the age of 72 in June of 2022. A lifelong advocate for the intellectually disabled, Dr. Hehir’s research was instrumental to our film and his interview continues to inspire us today.

In remembrance, we wanted to share the full speech he gave at  UN’s World Down Syndrome Day in 2019 as part of the filming of Forget Me Not.  In his brief speech, Thomas’ passion and commitment to inclusive education and the disabled community shines through clearly. We’re so thankful to have had the opportunity to meet and work with Thomas, and we hope that viewers of Forget Me Not are inspired to follow in his footsteps and carry on his mission of securing the right to inclusive education for all students.
